Insights

Writing aimed at the person who has to make the decision and sign for it, not at other engineers.

What we write about

interface person model

Mostly the questions we get asked before a project starts: what it will cost, which approach fits, how to tell whether it worked, and how to avoid the expensive mistakes.

No predictions about the future of work. Just what we have learned building these systems.

  • Written for decision-makers
  • Numbers from real projects
  • Trade-offs stated honestly
  • Updated as the field moves

What gets written here

Four articles, each answering a question a client asked before signing something. They exist because we found ourselves writing the same email repeatedly, and an email that gets sent five times should be a page.

None of them are news posts. Model releases are covered adequately elsewhere and are usually irrelevant within a quarter. What changes slowly — how to scope a project, what retrieval is genuinely good at, how to tell whether a supplier has done this before — is worth writing down properly.

Who they are written for

The person who has to approve the budget and does not have an AI background. Every article assumes you are technically literate but not a machine learning engineer, and avoids jargon except where the exact term matters, in which case it gets defined.

If you want something covered that is not here, send the question. It may become the next one.

Tell us what you are building.

Send a short description of the problem and we will reply within one business day with an honest view of scope, cost and whether we are the right person for it.
